Are you willing to spend a little time every day like most people won’t, so you can spend the better part of your life like most people can’t?
Let this sink in for a minute.
(here’s a head’s up) It’s all going to boil down to ONE thing.
We normally associate growing and changing with learning which (of course) is partially true but it’s not the whole story. The gathering of knowledge doesn’t mean we’re growing – growing only happens after what we learn is applied and then changes how we live on a daily basis.
Last week we discussed the idea of devoting 1% of the time we each have every day (that’s 15 minutes of the 1440 minutes at our daily disposal) to do something that would change our lives.
If you missed Time to change? Do this. click here.
Many of you emailed saying the same thing, “You’ve got my attention… it sounds like a great idea…but I’m overwhelmed or undecided about how or where to assign my 15 minutes.”
I hear you. It can be overwhelming.
Here’s what I did. I started by spending my 15 minutes considering the rituals – the ‘little’ things I do every day. Actually ‘little’ is the wrong word because they’re pretty big…these rituals are what ultimately define and shape life and keep change at bay.
This led me in some interesting directions and proved to be unexpectedly powerful.
I decided to focus my 15 minutes working on, tiny sustainable changes in routine behavior that was (surprise) keeping me stuck in the same spot.
WHO DOESN’T LOVE AN EXPERIMENT
Foe the next 6 weeks I’ll share what I’m doing and invite you to do it with me. Call it an experiment. Practicing each one – one at a time – one day at a time and letting them build on one another
Fifteen minutes total time. That’s it. Even though you might be tempted…no more.
Ready? Here’s where I’m starting.
DO ONLY ONE THING AT A TIME
We are the generation of women that took multi-tasking to a whole new level. Think back to all those multiple balls you juggled. Yikes. Was that even humanly possible? You made it so. Where did it get you? Well, if you’re like me, (other than the initial sense of supreme accomplishment), exhausted, short tempered, unhinged and out-of-touch with my life and what mattered most. Here’s the good news. You can give yourself permission to stop, power down and just focus on ONE thing.
Ok… I know. Easier said than done.
Here’s a metaphor to help you see in a new light
Imagine holding a magnifying glass over a small pile of dry leaves as the sun shines bright on the hottest afternoon of the year.
Nothing will happen as long as you keep moving the magnifying glass quickly from one leaf to the next. But as soon as you hold the magnifying glass still and focus the sun’s rays on one single leaf.
The whole pile of leaves will ignite into flames.
That’s the power of focusing on one thing at a time.
HERE IT IS ….. YOUR OPPORTUNITY
Your opportunity on a daily basis is to realize that you are the magnifying glass in your own life and that you can intentionally focus the energy you get from the world on one single leaf at a time. When you do, you will ignite incredible ‘flames’ that move your projects, your dreams, your relationships and even the world around you.
Think about this – Wayne Dyer once said, “When you change the way your look at things, the things you look at will change.”
Today and every day this week spend your 15 minutes focused solely on just ONE thing…one idea…one dream…one activity.
I bet you’ll start to feel the heat of the flames.
Imagine where that could lead!
Have a great week.
