Judie Wilson is a spark plug, duracell bunny and all around yummy. Her persona is one of supreme healthy aging. From The Dailey Method (her exercise studio in White Rock, B.C.) she inspires a community of women to be all they can be, “get their inner sexy on” and go forth and conquer! Her tribe is excited and turned on to life. She is a couple years short of being a ‘certified’ (YA) YUMMY AGER* so I’m welcoming her to the sisterhood as a (YIT) Yummy-in-Training. She’s got the Yummy down pat.
*YUMMY AGER – [noun] – woman 50+ vibrant, beautiful and sensuous who wants to live an inspired passionate life.
Cheryl: It’s hard to believe you have 4 grown kids (her eldest is 26) …you’re strong and vibrant and aging in a totally YUMMY way…what’s the secret?
Judie: Making sure that every day I take “Judie Time” I might have to get up early but I make sure I get some sort of exercise every day. That may mean a power walk or just a few planks or push-ups, just getting the blood flowing sets the tone for my day.
Cheryl: What’s your definition of YUMMY AGING?
Judie: A person that with the years has so much wisdom, calmness and knows themselves. The obvious would be a person who takes good care of themselves so on the outside they look fantastic, but it’s that calm sense of self coming from their soul that is YUMMY AGING a sense of calm and grace.
Cheryl: There is a general conception that we can’t build muscle as we age. Thoughts?
Judie: Doing full body resistance exercises (push-ups and planks) requires the body to use muscle and creates lean muscle. It is the most important thing to do as a “yummy” for strengthening bones (having no muscle = tissue paper bones), and lean muscle helps burn fat. You’re likely not going to win body building championships as a “yummy” but you will keep the furnace burning, and feel much stronger and your bones will thank you for it.
Cheryl: What’s the best thing that women 50 + can do for themselves?
Judie: 4 things…sleep, exercise, nutrition, positive state of mind. Sleep can be difficult if women are experiencing hormonal changes due to perimenopause and full blown menopause. Seeing a good Naturopath can help, discussing with friends or speaking to the person at your health food store will all help you find your own personal relief. It goes without saying, when you exercise you feel better and the same goes for eating well. If you hang out with like minded people, you gather great positive energy. Don’t sweat the small stuff…. Strive for progress not perfection.
Cheryl: You inspire a legion of women daily….who/what inspires you?
Judie: People with spirit and passion inspire me. It doesn’t matter what it is, I am inspired by anyone that has a passion or pursues their passions, experiencing all that comes along with it.
Cheryl: Life beyond 50 is often called Life Part II – even tho you’re not quite there- any idea of goals/desires for the next great chapter of your life?
Judie: No plans, that’s the beauty. I am finally free of the school system with my 4th heading off to University in the fall, I look forward to taking off at any given time not just Christmas and spring break. I will continue to spend Judie time and try to live my life in the present and absorb all that life has in store for me and my family.
Anyone asked to describe Judie will have ENERGY at the top of the list. She’s got an approach to life that is exuberant, irreverent, funny, take-no-prisoners and 100% alive. Totally YUMMY! Like this post? Then sign up to have the latest RSZ YUMMY AGING post delivered to your inbox.
