We’re having a passionate discussion about discovering passion and purpose. Excited and animated, she talks about what she’s always wanted to do and who she’s always wanted to be. The thoughts and ideas are free flowing. The wheels are turning. The fire is lit.
Talk turns to steps for getting into action.
THEN the word comes up.
Right
How will I know it’s the right time? How will I know it’s the right place?
So many of us get stuck here and never take another excited, passionate step forward. Looking for that elusive ‘rightness’. That guarantee that everything is going to turn out perfectly before starting.
Here’s the thing, you will never know if its ‘right’ before you get into action.
Let it Go
Give up the idea that you have to know the right time and place. Give up the idea that clarity is something that happens at the beginning of the journey. Give up the idea that you have to have a perfect plan.
Instead just start and the ‘right’ path will reveal itself.
Think back to other times in your life. Did you start in the ‘right’ place or did you simply start and then made course corrections as you went along? Of course, you did. Sometimes we forget the journey, focusing only on outcomes. That’s a shame because the journey is where the gold is.
Here’s is Another Idea
If you struggle with finding passion and purpose, wondering if it’s the right one. Think of your passion and purpose as your contribution to solving problems in the world.
A funny thing happens, when you take the focus off of yourself and instead focus on solving problems of the world… you tend to not only survive… but thrive.
And… even better than that… when you focus on solving problems that you love to solve… that’s how your purpose and your passion reveals itself.
Right path, right time, right place — guess again
Here’s something that not everyone will tell you: we are all just guessing.
Everything we do is an educated experiment.
If we viewed life as an experiment in solving problems that we love to solve instead of some pressure cooker of perfection and clarity and needing answers before we start…. we would be so much happier, peaceful and fulfilled.
Try these Trades
Trade perfection for experimentation. This makes everything so much more fun. Trust me I was a world class perfectionist always wanting to do things perfectly and … (you guessed it) … right.
Trade finding your purpose and passion for solving problems. Enlarging the focus gives you so many more options. Your heart is open and suddenly the world is to.
Trade needing clarity and knowing for just trying things out and seeing what happens. It’s freeing to simply ‘see what happens’. It takes the pressure off being right.
Pretty soon you will know that all is right with your life and everything is unfolding exactly as it should.
Sending you big love my friends,
Cheryl
