I needed some mid life inspiration.
On my last birthday, my college educated, math whiz daughter advised me I was now closer to 60 than 50. Reality check. I was squarely in Part 2.0. Time to think About Me.
How would this chapter be lived and remembered? What were my dreams?
I wanted a life that was inspired, meaningful and of service to others. I wanted joy in my heart, wonder in my spirit and a laugh in my belly. I wanted to follow my passion and discover purpose. I wanted to glow with health and vitality.
Well….that was the plan.
Going about it would take on a life of it’s own and begin as it does for many of us, with the (re)discovery of myself.
What I did before…
I’d always had purpose. Sports Anchor, host/interviewer, actor, educational consultant, corporate and media trainer and charitable fund raiser pretty much sums up a 35 year career. It was characterized by opportunities, detours and reinvention.
My career life launched as a host, interviewer and actor in the Canadian film and television industry. It was a sharp detour off a path originally focused on becoming a high school PE teacher. But opportunity knocked, I answered and took a leap of faith. I retired with over 500 appearances, a Gemini award nomination and a firsthand understanding that dreams are fueled by passion and intuition is the whisper of the spirit.
Then a curve ball
I faced divorce, single parenthood and uncertainty. Necessity called for reinvention and fast. Most importantly I had to do something that would enhance family life and parallel my daughter’s growth. I founded Imagineers with my good friend and (amazing) artist Claire Cilliers. It was another leap of faith.
Intuition whispered – Go! We did. As Imagineers we created a signature Arts based program aimed at developing creativity and critical thinking in youth. We operated a community studio, worked with students and teachers and authored several curriculums used throughout the world. We were all about skills interwoven with fun and play believing that when the heart and the mind are integrated we are at our highest capacity to learn and understand.
Mindblasting Corporate Training followed
I retooled the imaginative and creative style of Imagineers for the corporate arena. Once again fun fostered a partnership of heart and mind and allowed professionals from health care, finance and construction sectors to government agencies and non profits to access the soul of their organizations. Regardless of age or position we are all the same, when hearts and minds work in unison we access deep understandings and are able to achieve unimagined results.
Along the way I had the opportunity to be a founding member of three charitable organizations raising millions of dollars for each. I was blessed to work with outstanding, selfless individuals who dedicated their lives to serving to others. These people are among my greatest teachers and the lessons learned are embedded in Red Shoe Zone.
Unquestionably the best thing I ever did was have my daughter Kelly who is now 29. Her passion, fearlessness and determination to follow her dreams; her way inspires me every day.
The Red Shoe Zone is Mid Life Inspiration for Women
The idea for The Red Shoe Zone came from many, many heartfelt conversations with friends and (surprisingly) a pair of shoes proving the point that insight often comes from the most unlikely places! Most of the women I knew felt excitement and joy at beginning Life 2.0, but it was often short lived.
Celebration gave way to fear.
The ability to dream was rusty, the thought of finding purpose or starting new overwhelming. Self doubt, fear and not knowing where to start threatened to derail vibrant women who were rich with wisdom and experience.
The Red Shoe Zone was created to help mid life women fearlessly (re)discover themselves.
To inspire new purpose, new dreams and the courage to bring them to life.
