Fearless (re)Discovery of self requires courage.
When I examine stories of great courage I see it’s the initial ACTion that is the source of the courageous act. This is the part that brings tears to the eyes and fills the heart. It is the choice to ACT that fuels courage. Once ACTion commences with courage activated, fear, the all-time troublemaker, is disarmed. Gone…poof.
I look at the times when I’ve been stuck, unable to act and in obvious need of courage. Granted there have been many reasons why I became immobilized but a lot of the time it’s simply because I tried to figure out all the details before I began. Will it work? How will it work? What if it doesn’t work? That starts a whole chain of inner critic babble, fears fueled by worry and there I am…immobilized (stuck/stopped).
I’ve become aware that when I bite the bullet and start (ACT)) I’m focused and unafraid. Interestingly the ‘place’ I start my action doesn’t seem to matter. In the past I’ve gotten stuck trying to figure out where to start! Now I see that’s irrelevant – beginning, middle or end (and work backwards) all work – pick one! Once I’m ACTing – fears are overpowered and the inner critic silenced by my fully engaged state. I have the courage I need and am able to seize every opportunity available to me.
Bottom line is to get into ACTion. Just start…anywhere!
reACTION [to change in the response to stimulus]: Day 24- Just start….
Bite the bullet, squeeze your eyes shut and jump, leap, dive or slowly slide in….whatever you have to do…just start!
On the topic of courage watch this 4 minute video from Clock Opera ‘Once and For All’ it’s a beauty.
