It happens when you intensely look at something…the edges sharpen and it becomes clear. My entrenched rituals were under the magnifiying glass. While some were necessary to structure life and accomplish tasks, others were stopping growth by keeping new influences at bay. Time fell into that camp.
When I was actively parenting my daughter, life was understandably highly scheduled and busy – school, sports, friends, work – you know the routine – we did a fine job of packing it all in! Kelly moved away 4 ½ years ago, attended university, graduated from university, is now pursuing her dream AND I’m still engaged in a highly scheduled life largely focused outside me.
What a realization that was! Obviously an old ritual is hard to break. My highly scheduled, fast paced life can be dropped. Especially since (upon inspection) a lot of what fills it is simply busyness. I can focus on ME! WOW! Yes I can! I can streamline and refocus my time!

reACTION [to change in the response to stimulus]: Day 5 – A day in the life
Monitor the next 24 hours – account for all your time and identify how it is used.
Create a pie chart that represents a typical day in your life.
How much time was productive? How much was busyness that could be streamlined or eliminated? How much was focused on YOU?
Adjust as needed.
