Women love master colourist Tony Hazelden for what he does to their hair. Here he answers Red Shoe readers most often asked questions.
Cheryl: Thanks for sharing your expertise Tony! You’ve said that one of the best ways to ensure shine is to get hair trimmed regularly. How often is ideal?
TONY: Shorter haircuts need maintenance more frequently than longer ones. Short hair cuts need maintenance about every 5 weeks. Longer hair can stretch into 6 weeks or even 2 months.
Cheryl: Does our hair actually get used to the products we use regularly rendering them no longer effective? Should we rotate products? If so how often?
TONY: I’m not convinced that hair ‘gets used’ to products, it’s probably a myth. There are so many products out there and this just adds to the confusion. My advice: find something you like + stay with it. If the product is ok for coloured hair then that’s a great start. Hydrate-Me Wash or Angel.Wash are both great Kevin Murphy products for washing hair that won’t disappoint.
Cheryl: You always treat your colour clients to a great blow out! I totally LOVE it! My hair is so shiny and bouncy when you’re finished! I can’t EVER replicate it! What’s the secret?
TONY: Its funny that you’d say that I don’t think I’m much good at blow drying but thanks for the compliment! The number one tip that most experts will give about blow drying is to make sure that the hair is at least 85% dry before any brushes are used. Anti-gravity lotion and small sections will help as well. Good luck
Cheryl: I’ll keep trying! What’s in style for hair spring/summer 2015?
TONY: Red heads seem to be ruling things right now! Caramel blonds will be super popular too. Remember its got to look good on You – the best look is the one that works for you.
Cheryl: AND I’m remembering your advice last time which I thought was so good! With all the advances in hair colour and techniques we can think of hair as an accessory. So…sisters… lighten up, do something fun and/or daring it’s only hair and everything is changeable! Gotta love that Tony! Thank you!
