“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order and confusion to clarity.” Melody Beattie
Fear is disarmed in the presence of gratitude. Since fear is often what stops us from being all we can be, replacing it with gratitude would seem a good idea!
I saw Deepak Chopra perform a gratitude mediation not long ago. It intrigued me because the meditation he was demonstrating was short! My mind wanders easily and wants to do things like make lists so something short was right up my alley.
I gave it a try. It felt great and it took, as he promised, only 2 minutes.
reACTION [to change in the response to stimulus]: Two minute meditation
Here’s how it goes.
Sit in comfortable chair, hands on lap with palms up and eyes closed
Put your awareness on your heartbeat until you can feel it.
Ask: What am I grateful for?
Allow responses to enter consciousness
Ask for an image that represents love.
Put your awareness back on your heart and feel the heartbeat.
Become aware of fingers and feel heartbeat in fingertips.
Feel sense of relaxation.
Open eyes.
“The miracle of gratitude is that it shifts your perception to such an extent that it changes the world you see.” Robert Holden
To grow the gratitude:
- start the day by writing down 3 things you are grateful for
- start a gratitude journal
- write a letter to someone expressing your gratitude to them
